Can we have our knowledge and belief independent of our culture?
Knowledge is gaining information beneficial or unbeneficial for themselves or society. The knowledge can be adapted from various sources, example-a subject book, religious book or through a person or society. The society is the group/community of the individuals sharing similar cultire, tradition and laws. So the eye of the facing answer is that the knowledge and belief are dependent on what is taught to us. Example-The knowledge gained by a Christian will be different from the knowledge gained by a hindu, this is because their teachings have been adapted from their family (belonging to a particular cast of a society).A role of emotions and language is large in contributing for gaining knowledge. A primary example can be quoted in the new edition of bible, stating that women should submit herself completely to her husband, accepting every instruction by him and considering her as weaker sex. (1 Peter 3/Colossians 3-“Husbands must live with your wives with proper understanding that they are the weaker sex/Wives, submit yourself to your husband’s”) The diction (ex: weak/submit)of the language used sounds partial and discriminative teaching the generations to behave in the similar way of partiality with women’s discouraging themselves as weak and men considering themselves dominant towards the female sex. This is amazingly parallel to reality where many Christian women are treated like a doormat in their own houses. The next surface of the thoughts is emotions present in the religion. Through Wikipedia as the source of information, “emotion is the natural instinctive state of mind deriving from one's circumstances, mood, or relationships with others/objects.” In simpler words, it’s a feeling with any living or non-living object giving joy, love, sympathy, patriotism etc. Emotions are often leaded to attachment towards the object. In the matter of the object, emotions are attached to the religion leading an individual to act upon the particular way.
To think more broadly , the possibility of a person to gain knowledge or belief without an involvement of culture is high, only if the person is ready to think beyond and ignore the voices by the society. A independence of knowledge from culture is gained when a child from the beginning is taught to gain their beliefs and knowledge from one custom but from all of it, keeping the families(society) perspective broad. A real world example is a pupil of an International school who has adapted values from every culture and making their own perspective. When the independence of thoughts is given to a child in beginning, they become more thoughtful upon their decisions creating more exposure to the outer world giving a greater scope of experimentation to new ideas.
